HUGE thanks to Tommy Igoe, Hudson Music, Vic Firth, Zildjian Company, Official Yamaha Drums, Remo, Rhythm Tech, and Drum Guru for choosing me as the winner of the Groove Essentials 10th Anniversary Drum Contest! http://www.grooveessentials.com PERFORMANCE NOTES: For the Groove Essentials contest, I decided to pick one of my favorite SLOWER tracks from G.E. rather than doing an up-tempo or chops-heavy track. The Groove 87 track has a super swampy band groove and fun solo sections over hits. I think it's definitely one of the more underrated tracks in the book! This track is originally written to experiment with "Rideless Grooving", however I thought I'd put my spin on it by paying tribute to 3 of my favorite groove drummers who've had a profound effect on my playing (Adam Deitch, Stanton Moore, and Zigaboo Modeliste), while still doing my thing. I had a lot of fun recording this video; the Groove Essentials materials have been an incredibly useful educational tool for both myself and my students over the past 10 years.
